World's Eco-Life
Switching Its Official Car to a Fuel-Efficient Car
Rev. Jeong Hee Kim,
Chairman of Kwang Myong Hoy, the Republic of Korea
At present Kwang Myong Hoy has two official cars. One is a 12-passenger Van used to transport people to and from our events. The other is a small 1,000 cc-car used to transport the lecturers to and from the events.
In September of this year, we traded our larger 2,500 cc-car with a small car in order to reduce CO2 emissions. With this we had fuel efficiency improvement from 10km/l to 17km/l and gasoline cost cut by half from 400,000 won/month (25,000 yen).
Hyundai-Kia Motor, the automaker of this new car, invested more than 11 trillion won this year on the development of low-fuel cars and plans to introduce an eco-car in the market next year. In the face of soaring gasoline prices, the company is heavily focused on developing fuel-efficient automobiles.
I personally commute 5 km to work at Kwang Myong Hoy by using the subway and walking.
