Readers’ Meeting in Hong Kong Attended by a Total of 92 People

Study of the Teaching that All Religions Emanate from One Universal God, as well as Shinsokan for Mutual Prayer

In Hong Kong, Readers’ Meetings were held in the course of six days from September 7 to 12: eight Chinese-language Readers’ Meetings and one Japanese-language Readers’ Meeting. The number of attendees totaled 92, including five newcomers.

From the International Headquarters Rev. Suguru Saiki (Assistant Minister), who can guide directly in Chinese, was dispatched as a lecturer. Using the Chinese version of Seimei no Jisso (Truth of Life), Vol. 1 by Rev. Masaharu Taniguchi, and other publications as his texts, Rev. Saiki guided a Readers’ Meeting every day. The sites of the Readers’ Meetings were the members’ homes in different parts of Hong Kong and a room in a commercial building.

Taking into consideration the fact there are many devout Buddhists and Christians in Hong Kong, Rev. Saiki explained the Seicho-No-Ie teaching in an easy-to-understand manner, quoting from Buddhist scriptures and the Bible and through anecdotes, so that the attendees deepen their understanding.

On September 7, in a lecture, “Entrusting in God Completely—On the Origin of Original Sin and the True Nature of Evil Passions,” Rev. Saiki explained Seicho-No-Ie’s fundamental teachings: only God-created perfect world exits, all phenomena are manifestations of only mind, and all religions emanate from one universal God.

On September 8, Rev. Saiki explained Shinsokan for Mutual Prayer and led a practice of it. He included Shinsokan for Mutual Prayer in the program of the Readers’ Meeting in Hong Kong for the first time. He explained the significance of it as well as the method of its practice in an easy-to-understand fashion, so that the members can conduct it on their own. The attendees later separated into two groups: those who pray and those who receive their prayer. And led by Rev. Saiki, they practiced Shinsokan for Mutual Prayer.

On September 9, in a lecture, “To Learn the Idea of the ‘Office in the Forest,’” Rev. Saiki explained the significance of the International Headquarters’ move to the “Office” and the “Movement that Grows with Nature.”

On September 10 and 11, Rev. Saiki lectured on the Sundial Way of Life and the three important religious practices. On September 12 he guided a Japanese Readers’ Meeting.

Rev. Saiki also gave individual counseling before and after the Readers’ Meetings and provided guidance on children’s education and so forth, referring to his own experiences.

Comments from the attendees included: “The lectures based on actual examples were great. I was able to deepen my understanding of the teachings.”

Remarks by Rev. Suguru Saiki, Assistant Minister

“The atmosphere of the Readers’ Meetings was very good. I was impressed with the enthusiasm that the followers in Hong Kong have toward the teaching. I would like to listen to their opinions and help them as a lecturer.”
