Readers’ Meetings in Hong Kong Attended by A Total of 49 People

Study Includes Sundial Way of Life and Environmental Problem

In Kowloon, Hong Kong, five Readers’ Meetings were held in the course of four days from August 9 to 12. The number of attendees totaled 49, including two newcomers.

As was the case last time, Rev. Chen Bor Horng (Ordained Minister, Republic of China Missionary Headquarters), who can guide directly in Chinese, was dispatched from the International Headquarters as a lecturer. He provided guidance every day, using Hidokeishugi towa Nanika (What Is the Sundial Way of Life?) by Rev. Masanobu Taniguchi and other publications.

On August 9, Rev. Chen gave a lecture, “A Child of God Is Sinless” at the Hong Kong Laboratory Technicians’ Association, a site that was used for the first time. He explained that divinity, or Buddhahood innately dwells in man and that it manifests itself through the practice of the three important religious practices. His explanation was easy to understand. On the following day (August 10), the location of the Meeting was the home of a member. There Rev. Chen gave a lecture, “The Sundial Way of Life.” During a discussion meeting after the lecture, a newcomer, a female technical college student, asked him a question: “I feel terrible and have a problem with the death of a friend who passed away at the age of 20.” Rev. Chen explained in an easy-to-understand fashion that man, without exception, is a child of God and that his life is eternal. He explained the significance of memorialization and suggested that she memorializes her friend’s soul. The student was moved to tears and her facial expression turned bright.

On August 11, Rev. Chen returned to the Hong Kong Laboratory Technicians’ Association and explained the Mind Purification Ceremony and guided a practice of it.

On August 12, Rev. Chen led a practice of Shinsokan and the reading of the Holy Sutra at the same site before giving a lecture, “Why Does Seicho-No-Ie Deal with the Environmental Problem?” Rev. Chen explained the significance of Seicho-No-Ie’s effort to deal with the environmental problem as well as the reduction of meat eating.

After the last lecture, “Let’s Live Our Mission,” Rev. Chen wrote on the blackboard the names of the nearly 50 Holy Mission Fellowship members in Hong Kong and led the reading of the Holy Sutra to bless them.

Rev. Chen commented, “I believe that the Movement in Hong Kong will further grow if the leaders and members live by what they learned at the Readers’ Meetings, practice the three important religious practices in their daily lives and also provide care to newcomers.”
