In Australia, a Readers’ Meeting was held on March 24 at the Vibe Hotel North Sydney and was attended by 16 people, including six newcomers. This was an increase of two people over the previous time. The breakdown of the attendees by country of origin was 8 for Brazil, 2 for Australia, 1 for China and 5 for Japan.

In Australia, although there are no Regional Lecturers, the followers cooperate with one another and hold a Readers’ Meeting every month. Rev. Atsuko Nakanishi (Assistant Minister, North American Section, International Department) was dispatched from the International Headquarters as a lecturer. By using slides, Rev. Nakanishi guided in English. As her texts, she used Shokan Zakkan (Random Thoughts), Part 19 by Rev. Masanobu Taniguchi, and Seimei no Jisso (Truth of Life), Vol. 7 by Rev. Masaharu Taniguchi.

Rev. Nakanishi gave two lectures. In her lecture in the morning, “What Is the Seicho-No-Ie Faith?” she explained Seicho-No-Ie’s fundamental teachings as well as the significance of the Holy Sutra reading, while mixing several experiences. This was followed by the reading by all attendees of the Holy Sutra, Nectarean Shower of Holy Doctrines.

In her afternoon lecture, “Live a Completely Free Life,” Rev. Nakanishi explained the importance of the power of words and the Sundial Way of Life. As a practice of the Sundial Way of Life, the attendees listed as many blessings already accorded as possible. There was a period to present them and share one another’ joy.

Rev. Nakanishi next explained Seicho-No-Ie’s environmental protection activities and the significance of the Headquarters’ move to the “Office in the Forest.” She called upon the attendees to practice the Four Immeasurable Minds toward nature as well, keep their material desires in check and live in such a way that does not cause burden to the environment. At the end of the program Rev. Nakanishi led the practice of the Shinsokan to Visualize the Four Immeasurable Minds.

Comments received from the attendees included: “I was made to realize the importance of continuing to practice Shinsokan and read the Holy Sutras”; and “I offer gratitude to my family, friends and all people and things around me.” Seven people newly joined the Holy Mission Fellowship.

Rev. Nakanishi commented, “Thanks to the promotion of the Readers’ Meeting on the facebook, more people than expected gathered. I sensed the great possibility of promoting the Movement via the Internet. Among the attendees, there were immigrants from Japan and Brazil who had searched for many years for a Seicho-No-Ie followers’ gathering site. I re-affirmed with the leaders the importance of continuously holding the Readers’ Meeting every month.”
