CO2 Emissions from Japan’s National Leaders’ Seminars and Youth and Young Adult Association National Convention

Emissions Reduced at White Dove Association National Leaders’ Seminar

A calculation was made of the CO2 emissions resulting from the movement of attendees at the three national events held in Japan from April 28 to 30: the White Dove Association National Leaders’ Seminar, the Brotherhood Association and Prosperity Society Joint National Leaders’ Seminar, and the Youth and Young Adult Association National Convention.

The CO2 emission for the White Dove Association was 43,054 kg, which was a dramatic decrease of 17.5 percent (9,134 kg) from last year. However, the Brotherhood Association and Prosperity Society’s emission was 29,244 kg, which was an increase of 21.4 percent (5,147 kg) and the Youth and Young Adult Association’s emission was 12,407 kg, or an increase of 33 percent (3,076 kg). The emission per attendee as compared with last year was 6.5 kg (a decrease of 17.8%) for the White Dove Association, 20.4 kg (increase of 29%) for the Brotherhood Association and Prosperity Society, and 13.8 kg (an increase of 59.9%) for the Youth and Young Adult Association.

The White Dove Association’s emission reduction was attributed to the holding of the Seminar at nine sites, the same number of sites as last year, and the fact that the attendance at the main site from the missionary area participating at the sub-site was limited to only one person, the head of Missionary Area White Dove Association. On the other hand, an emission increase for the Brotherhood Association and Prosperity Society, and the Youth and Young Adult Association resulted from the reduction of sites from seven to three, and six to three, respectively.

The number of missionary areas which voluntarily participated in zero carbon by using carbon-offset tours and so forth was 10 for the White Dove Association (same as last year), 9 for the Brotherhood Association and Prosperity Society (increase of 1), and 5 for the Youth and Young Adult Association (decrease of 1).
