Readers’ Meetings Held in Thailand and Indonesia

Fifty People Attend the Readers’ Meeting Held at A High School in Indonesia

From March 9 to 13 Readers’ Meetings were held in Thailand and Indonesia. Rev. Tomoko Suenobu (Assistant Minister, North American Section, International Department) was dispatched from the International Headquarters as a lecturer.

In Thailand, a Readers’ Meeting was held at the home of Mr. Hirotaka Miyamura (representative of Joint Readers’ Meeting) in Bangkok on March 9 and was attended by four people. Rev. Suenobu gave two lectures, including, “Going Beyond the Phenomena.” She explained that things can be improved by one’s mental attitude, while mixing her own experiences and urged that the attendees practice the three important religious practices and keep the Sundial Diary.

The attendees’ comments included, “I would like to try even harder to live the Sundial Way of Life and also do my best to spread the teachings in Thailand.”

In Indonesia, a Readers’ Meeting was held on March 12 at a public high school in Jakarta and was attended by graduates as well as current students of the high school in addition to the members. The number of attendees was 50, including 43 newcomers. The principal of the high school, who is a Holy Mission Fellowship member, made a room available as the Meeting site and called upon the students to attend. This was the first time that a Seicho-No-Ie event had been held at this school.

Rev. Suenobu lectured on the theme, “Let’s Practice the Sundial Way of Life” with Indonesian interpretation. She stressed that the world which God created is a bright world with only goodness and the Sundial Way of Life is effective in bringing it out. A newcomer commented, “Today’s lecture was very interesting. I felt that the idea of the Sundial Way of Life was important especially for us, young people.”

On the following day (March 13) a Japanese-language Readers’ Meeting was held at the Kartika Chandra Hotel in Jakarta and was attended by six people. Rev. Suenobu gave three lectures, including “Learning from Nature.” She explained the practice of the Four Immeasurable Minds is important to protect nature. At the end she and the attendees performed the “Shinsokan to Practice the Four Immeasurable Minds” together. Rev. Suenobu commented, “At the high school in Indonesia the attendees listened to my lectures intently. After my lectures I had a chance to talk with the attendees and was touched by their warm personality. I felt that although the groups in Thailand and Indonesia are still small, they continue to propagate the teachings steadily. I would like to extend my support for the activities in these areas in the future.”
