Republic of Korea Leaders’ Workshop Held under the Theme: Practice of the Sundial Way of Life and Personnel Development

The 21st Republic of Korea Leaders’ Workshop was held on March 13 at the Kwang Myong Hoy Hall in Daegu. The number of attendees was 75, up by 25 people over the previous time.

The theme of the Workshop was “Practice of the Sundial Way of Life” and “Development of Personnel Who Will Shoulder the New Century.”

Rev. Shuichi Odaira (Ordained Minister, Vice Chief of the Youth and Young Adult Association at the time) was dispatched from the International Headquarters as a lecturer. He provided guidance through the interpretation of Rev. Jeong Ho Kim (Assistant Minister, Vice Chairman of Kwang Myong Hoy).

The first workshop was held under the theme, “The World View That Everything Is One—Peace, Environment and Resources.” Rev. Odaira explained the significance of the fact that Seicho-No-Ie is dealing with the environment and the importance of practicing the Four Immeasurable Minds in our daily life.

The second workshop was held under the theme, “Development of Personnel Who Practice the Sundial Way of Life.” In order to cultivate the attitude to view things from the Sundial Way of Life, potatoes were distributed for the attendees to make sketches. The Sundial Way of Life was later explained through a format similar to a panel discussion between Rev. Odaira and Rev. Jeong Hee Kim (Assistant Minister, Chairman of Kwang Myong Hoy), which also included attendees’ presentations.

In the third workshop Rev. Jeong Hee Kim lectured on “Let’s Hold Cheerful Readers’ Meetings to Study the Teachings Correctly.” He talked about the basic significance of Readers’ Meetings and how to energize Readers’ Meetings through members’ cooperation and support.

Comments received from the attendees included: “I decided to raise my awareness about the environment and work for the future of humanity and earth”; and “I was able to gain an understanding of the significance of Readers’ Meetings. I will work hard for the further growth of the Readers’ Meeting.”

Rev. Odaira commented, “Thanks to the efforts of Rev. Kim, Chairman of Kwang Myong Hoy, and other leaders, the young generation of leaders are being developed. Everyone’s awareness about the environmental problem and international peace is high and they were earnest students at the Workshop. I expect that these workshops will help develop people who will shoulder the future Enlightenment Movement in different countries.

Remarks by Rev. Jeong Hee Kim, Chairman of Kwang Myong Hoy

“At the Workshop the attendees deepened their understanding of a life based on the world view that they are one with others and the Sundial Way of Life. This was a great achievement. I would like to extend my deep gratitude to Rev. Odaira for guiding us with love despite the fact that a massive earthquake hit Japan right before the Workshop.”
