Spiritual Training Seminar for Parents held in the Republic of China

Study of How to Build a Bright Home

A Spiritual Training Seminar for Parents, the first Seminar of this kind, was held from September 10 to 12 at Banchao in Taipei. The number of participants was 143, including 34 newcomers.

In the Republic of China, events with an aim to increase middle-aged members have been held since 2006. This contributed to a rapid increase of Mothers’ Study Classes from 1 to 24 in a four-year period. The Spiritual Training Seminar for Parents was held to build on the increase of Mothers’ Study Classes and to realize a faith-based life with all family members.

Rev. Masayo Iida (Ordained Minister, Assistant Chief of the White Dove Association Administration Section, Organizational Movement Department) was dispatched from the International Headquarters. She provided guidance together with Rev. Masanori Morita (Ordained Minister, Bishop of Seicho-No-Ie Republic of China) and Regional Lecturers. Rev. Chen Borhorng (Ordained Minister) and others acted as her interpreters.

The texts used included Chinese translations of Seimei no Jisso (Truth of Life), Vol. 1, Kokoro to Shokumotsu to Ninso (Mind, Food and Psysiognomy) by Rev. Masaharu Taniguchi; and Aijo Kyoshitsu (A Class on Love) by Rev. Seicho Taniguchi.

Rev. Iida gave five lectures, including a closing lecture. In her lecture, “In Order to Build a Bright Home,” she stressed that harmony between husband and wife is essential for the child to grow up to be cheerful and obedient. In her lecture, “Earth’s Life, Man’s Life,” she explained the close connection between the problem of environment and our life and called upon the participants to check their lifestyle and diet and change, if necessary.

There was a discussion session, where the participants divided into four groups by such themes as “Child Rearing/Problem of Education” and “Problem Between Husband and Wife.” The discussion lasted for two hours, with the lecturers present. The questions and answers and testimony sharing were so lively that some of them said that the two hours was not enough.

The Seminar program also included Mind Purification Ceremony, Ancestor Memorial Service and a laughing contest.

Comments received from the participants included: “From Rev. Iida’s lectures, I gained confidence that if I practice the teaching, I can definitely build a happy home”; “Through the three-day Seminar, gratitude welled in my heart for my husband and child.”

Rev. Iida commented, “The participants were active students during the Seminar and there was an energetic atmosphere and a sense of oneness. I expect that the Movement will further expand in the Republic of China.”

Remarks by Rev. Masanori Morita, Bishop of Seicho-No-Ie Republic of China

“The participants responded positively to the Seminar and many people expressed their hope that it will be held next year again. I would like to focus my effort on the development of middle-aged leaders in the future.”
