The Second Wrkshop for Young Leaders held in the Republic of Korea

Aims to develop Young Leaders

In the Republic of Korea, the Second Workshop for Young Leaders was held from July 17 to 18 at the Kwang Myong Hoy hall in Daegu. It was attended by 19 people, including college students and those who had already finished school. As was the case with the First Workshop for Young Leaders held last July, the objective of the Workshop was to develop young leaders who will shoulder the next generation, with a specific aim to (1) build a foundation for the attendees to sustain the faith throughout their lives, and (2) deepen their awareness as members of the Managing Committee of the Youth Spiritual Training Seminar to be held in August and gain the strength to propagate voluntarily.

Rev. Yumiko Onuma (Assistant Minister, Youth and Young Adult Association Administrative Section) was dispatched from the International Headquarters as a lecturer. She gave three lectures, including “Let’s Spread the Sundial Way of Life.” She also guided the workshops.

One of the workshops which Rev. Onuma guided was on the theme of Shinsokan. She used the methodology introduced by the Youth and Young Adult Association Central Office for Japan’s Leadership Seminar: first study the significance and method of Shinsokan at a study session, and subsequently, convey the content of the study to other members of the groups. The group which had the best content gets the job of explaining Shinsokan to elementary school students at August’s Youth Spiritual Training Seminar. Rev. Onuma commented, “I focused on bringing out a sense of independence from the participants and got good results.”

At the end of the Workshop, Rev.Masahiro Takemura, Chief of the Youth and Young Adult Association, sent a message from the International Headquarters via a Web camera. He said “I have great expectations that as leaders you will propagate the Seicho-No-Ie teachings.”

A female college student who attended the Workshop for the first time commented, “I was made to realize afresh that it is important to deepen my understanding of the Truth and practice it. I would like to be an excellent Committee member at the Youth Spiritual Training Seminar and help participants.”

Rev. Onuma commented, “I was impressed with the participants’ sincere attitude that they all wanted to propagate the Truth. Their presentation skill was great. I believe that they will become wonderful leaders.”

REMARKS BY REV. JEONG HEE KIM, CHAIRMAN OF KWANG MYONG HOY

“The participants were deeply moved by Rev. Onuma’s religious attitude and enthusiasm. The Workshop turned out to be a wonderful one. The participants studied with a very positive attitude. I hope that they will help manage the Youth Spiritual Training Seminar with a sense of mission.”
