Hong Kong Leaders' Workshop

Two Chinese-Language Readers' Meeting Started

A Hong Kong Leaders’ Workshop was held at the Kowloon Tokai Building in Hong Kong from March 27 to 28.

Rev. Mamoru Amachi (Assistant Minister; Asia, Europe and Oceania Section, International Department) was dispatched from the International Headquarters as a lecturer. This was the fourth time that Rev. Amachi provided guidance in Hong Kong.

Since Rev. Amachi, who can guide directly in the Chinese language, became responsible for Hong Kong, one each of Chinese-language Readers’ Meeting and Japanese-language Readers’ Meeting were launched in January of this year, while there was only one Readers’ Meeting until last year. In addition, after this Workshop, two new Chinese-language Readers’ Meetings will start. This means that a total of four new Readers’ Meeting started in the last half year and shows the Movement’s steady growth.

Using the Seimei no Jisso (Truth of Life), Vol. 7 by Rev. Masaharu Taniguchi and other publications as his texts, Rev. Amachi gave four lectures.

The lectures which Rev. Amachi gave on March 27 were entitled: “On the Holding of a Readers’ Meeting” and “On the Practice of the Sundial Way of Life.” He guided on the specific method of holding a Readers’ Meeting and urged the attendees to practice the sundial way of life by using the Sundial Diary.

On March 28, Rev. Amachi lectured under the title, “On Meat Eating and World Peace.” This was the first time that he had dealt with the issue of meat eating. He also gave a lecture entitled “For the Realization of ‘the Movement That Grows with Nature.’” Using the Chinese translation of the 2010 Movement Policy, he explained the Headquarters’ intentions and policy so that the leaders have the same awareness.

The program of the Workshop also included a group discussion on “Why Should Seicho-No-Ie Deal with the Environmental Problem?” as well as the reading of the Holy Sutras, laughing practice, and a gratitude-to-parents chant.

Comments received from the attendees included: “I realized that gratitude to everything and practice of small things in our daily life lead to solving the environmental problem”; and “I would like to reduce meat eating and change my diet to mainly vegetables.”

Rev. Amachi commented, “I felt during the group discussion that the awareness of the leaders in Hong Kong about the environmental problem is high. I shared the sense that beneath the problem on the surface there is a deeper religious issues such as “oneness of the self and others.” I would like to continue providing support so that the holding of the Readers’ Meetings will continue and leaders can be developed.”
