Seicho-No-Ie News

Readers' Meeting held in Sydney, Australia on the Sundial Way of Life and Shionsokan

In Sydney, Australia, a Seicho-No-Ie Readers’ Meeting (English) was held at the Vibe Hotel North Sydney on March 27. The number of attendees was 13, including 3 newcomers. This was an increase of three people over the previous time. The breakdown of the attendees was 6 Japanese, 3 Australians, 2 Brazilians, 1 Korean, and 1 Chinese.

This was the third time that a lecturer had been dispatched from the International Headquarters since January of last year, when the International Headquarters resumed the dispatch of an Ordained Minister/Assistant Minister.

The objective of the Meeting was to study Seicho-No-Ie’s main teachings and learn the basic Shinsokan. Rev. Hideharu Sugiuchi (Ordained Minister, currently Vice Chief of Hawaii Missionary Area) was dispatched from the International Headquarters as a lecturer. He used the Seimei no Jisso (Truth of Life, English version), Volumes 1 and 7 and other publications as his texts.

In the morning, Rev. Sugiuchi gave two lectures in English: “Sundial Way of Life” and “Living with Nature.” He explained that the practice of the Buddha’s Four Immeasurable Minds leads to the solution of the environmental problem and introduced environmental protection activities of the International Headquarters, as well as activities in Brazil and the U.S.A. by showing slides.

The afternoon session was held on the theme, “Workshop on Shinsokan.” Rev. Sugiuchi lectured on “The Faith in the God of Only Goodness.” He also guided the practice of the basic Shinsokan and had a discussion with the attendees.

There were also testimonial presentations by the attendees.

Comments from the attendees included: “I would like to build a large Seicho-No-Ie community in Sydney”; “I would like to inform many people about the schedule of a Readers’ Meeting by placing an advertisement in newspapers.”

Rev. Sugiuchi commented, “There was an active exchange of opinions during the questions-and-answers period. The attendees were very interested in the study of the teachings and propagation. I sensed their strong energy. There are many people who have a positive attitude, so that by linking newcomers to daily activities and developing them, the Movement can be expected to grow in Australia in the future.”
