The 49th International Spiritual Training Seminar held in Hawaii

Study Includes Fundamental Teachings and Shinsokan

The 49th International Spiritual Training Seminar (English) was held from February 19 to 20 at the Seicho-No-Ie Hawaii Jisso Center on the island of Oahu. The number of participants was 36.

This was the first International Spiritual Training Seminar held in Hawaii in two years after February 2008 and it was the sixth Seminar in Hawaii.

The breakdown of the participants by region was 29 for Hawaii, 4 for New Jersey, 1 for California, 1 for Brazil, and 1 for Japan.

According to the International Spiritual Training Center, the focus of this Seminar was: (1) to study Seicho-No-Ie’s fundamental teachings deeply and correctly, and (2) encourage the participants to become propagators.

The lecturers were Rev. Yoshiko Teshigawara (Ordained Minister, Chairperson of the International Spiritual Training Center), Rev. Masayo Tsuruta (Ordained Minister, Chief of Northern California Missionary Area), Rev. Bruce Mallery (Ordained Minister, Chief of New York Missionary Area), and Rev. Tetsuya Abe (Ordained Minister, Acting Chief of Hawaii Missionary Area). The Seminar program included 11 lectures, Shinsokan for Mutual Prayer, an explanation and practice of Mind Purification Ceremony, Ancestor Memorial Service, and a singing practice of Seicho-No-Ie songs.

Also, a workshop on Shinsokan was held at the request of the participants. The Ordained Ministers/Assistant Ministers explained in detail the correct posture and breathing technique and provided guidance to each participant during the actual practice.

In her closing lecture, Rev. Teshigawara made a point that the way for religious activities in the modern age is to advance by balancing the giving of the truth and material gifts and encouraged each participant to daily practice the way of life taught at the Seminar and embody the Truth.

Comments received from the participants included: “I would like to convey the teachings to many people and share the Truth with them”; and “I had stayed away from Seicho-No-Ie. I feel refreshed in mind and body and was able to be myself again.”
