Study of The Sundial Way of Life in Hong Kong

A Japanese-Language Readers' Meeting and Chinese-Language Readers' Meeting Newly Started

In Hong Kong, Readers’ Meetings were held from January 14 to 16 at four locations, including the home of a follower on Kowloon Island. The number of the attendees totaled 34, including 5 newcomers.

In the past, the Readers’ Meeting guided by the lecturer from the International Headquarters used to be held at only one location. This time, in order to encourage the holding of a Readers’ Meeting at several sites, the dispatched lecturer went directly to each site to guide. This effort bore fruit in the form of the birth of two new Readers’ Meetings, a Chinese-language Readers’ Meeting and a Japanese-language Readers’ Meeting.

Rev. Mamoru Amachi (Assistant Minister, Asia, Europe and Oceania Section, International Department) was dispatched from the International Headquarters. As his texts, he used Seimei no Jisso (Truth of Life), Vol. 1 by Rev. Masaharu Taniguchi, Seicho-No-Ie, a monthly magazine published by the Seicho-No-Ie Republic of China Missionary Headquarters and other publications. He guided in Chinese and Japanese.

Rev. Amachi guided a Chinese-language Readers’ Meeting at two sites, as well as a Japanese-language Readers’ Meeting and Sunday Readers’ Meeting (Chinese and Japanese) at one site each. A Chinese-language Readers’ Meeting took place on January 14. A Japanese-language Readers’ Meeting and Chinese-language Readers’ Meeting took place on January 15. Rev. Amachi lectured on the theme of the sundial way of life, entitled “Beauty Exists Around Us” and “Let’s Nurture a Bright Mind” and explained Seicho-No-Ie’s fundamental teachings: “only God-Created perfect world is exists” “all phenomena are manifestations of only mind,” and “all religions emanate from one universal God.”

On January 16, the Sunday Readers’ Meeting was held under the title, “A Lecture on the Holy Sutra, Nectarean Shower of Holy Doctrines.” Mixing his own experiences, Rev. Amachi explained that man is not physical but is an eternal and invincible life.

The program also included questions and answers, a practice of Shinsokan, and the reading of the Holy Sutra, Nectarean Shower of Holy Doctrines.

A first-time attendee commented, “From the lecturer’s easy-to-understand explanation, I knew that the Seicho-No-Ie teaching is wonderful.”

Rev. Amachi remarked, “I have recently received a report that new people in the neighborhood attended the two newly-started Readers’ Meetings and that the Japanese Readers’ Meeting is now being held twice a month. In order to ensure the continued holding of the Readers’ Meetings, it is important to develop site-leaders and Regional Lecturers. I would like to continue to provide support.”
