Leaders' Workshop and Public Lecture held in Hawaii

Theme of Study included the Coexistence of Nature and Man

On September 19 a Leaders’ Workshop (English) was held at the Seicho-No-Ie Hawaii Jisso Center on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. On September 20, Public Lectures were held at the Ala Moana Hotel in Honolulu, in Japanese in the morning and in English in the afternoon. The number of attendees totaled 192: 29 at the Leaders’ Workshop, and 79 (Japanese) and 88 (English) at the Public Lectures.

The lecturers included Rev. Yoshiko Teshigawara (Ordained Minister, Bishop of Seicho-No-Ie United States Missionary Headquarters), Rev. Tetsuya Abe (Ordained Minister, Acting Chief of Hawaii Missionary Area), and Rev. Hiei Ando (National Ordained Minister). There were six lectures at the Leaders’ Workshop, including “Nature and Man Living Together and Coexisting,” which was based on the Seicho-No-Ie Special Conference for World Peace held in August in Brazil; “Carbon Neutral Movement;” and “The Use of The Internet.”

Rev. Teshigawara gave two lectures, including “Seicho-No-Ie’s Mission to Bring About World Peace.” She talked about the right attitude for the leaders to take and called upon the attendees to change their way of life from anthorocentrism to the one lived as believers of the faith that only God is the True Image that respects all life.

The Public Lectures, which had a total of 163 attendees, were held under the theme, “Cheerful Mind—Good Health and Prosperity to You,” at both the English and Japanese meetings. At the Japanese-language lecture meeting, Rev. Teshigawara gave a lecture, “Cheerful Mind,” and talked about the happiness and joy of a faith-based life. In a lecture entitled, “What Is Seicho-No-Ie?” Rev. Ando talked about the power of words.

Promotional activities for the Public Lectures included placing an advertisement twice in local newspapers, sending Truth of Life Magazines with the flyers to the residents in the area close to the site of the Public Lectures, and the use of mail magazine and the Newsletter published by the Hawaii Missionary Area.

Comments received from the attendees included: “I would like to work hard and propagate to convey joy” (Leaders’ Workshop); and “The lectures had many messages that touched my heart.” (Public Lecture)

REMARKS BY REV. TETSUYA ABE, ACTING CHIEF OF HAWAII MIESIONARY AREA

“At the Leaders’ Workshop, the leaders understood the significance, from a religious viewpoint, of dealing with the environmental protection and became more enthusiastic about propagation. I would like to encourage the attendees of the Public Lectures to take more interest in our regular events. I would like to join forces with the leaders to promote the Movement."
