WORLD’S ECO-LIFE

AWARENESS TO SAVE RAIN WATER

The Republic of China

In Taiwan, you see farmers who own a reservoir as large as 500 tons on their own farms. Mr. Liao Jun Zhao, Vice Chief of the Brotherhood Association, Taizhuang Missionary Branch, is one of them. He says he has no worry about water shortage even in times of drought and his oranges and bananas grow well. In rural areas, there are also families who save rain water in a water tower, which is used for laundry and cleaning.

In Taipei the amount of precipitation is about 2,500 mm, which is about 1.5 times that of Tokyo. You may think there is not need for individuals to have a reservoir pond, but we do not have rainfall year round. From November to April, we face a crisis of water shortage. In addition, the typhoon hits Taiwan a few times a year, which not only brings rainfall but also causes disaster and sometimes destroys the lifeline. Perhaps because of it, we make it a point of not forgetting the difficulty of water shortage when we have water and try to make good use of rain water.
