Filling Up from A Water Dispenser

The Republic of China

I will answer the question from last month: what do you do when you run out of water in your bottle while out on business? At libraries, offices, department stores and other places where many people come, there is a drinking water dispenser and you can fill up from it. Besides, the water is free of charge.

Japan does not have drinking water dispensers of this type. Generally, a water dispenser in Taiwan is a large electric pot, which offers boiled tap water in three types: hot, room temperature, and chilled. It looks like a drink bar in a “family restaurant” in Japan. If you pull down the lever, water comes out from the faucet.

In the semi-tropical Taipei, we drink more water than the Japanese. Tap water is undrinkable unless it is boiled and there are few vending machines that sell drinking water. Therefore, the drinking water dispenser is very convenient, since the water from there is safe. This encourages people to carry My Bottle, and hence it contributes to environmental protection.
