Hong Kong Leaders' Workshop

Study of Readers' Meeting and Islam

In Hong Kong, a Leaders’ Workshop was held from March 7 to 8 at the meeting place of Seicho-No-Ie Readers’ Meeting, Inc. (Representative: Mrs. Machiko Kwok) in Kowloon. A total of 19 people attended the two-day event.

This Workshop is held once a year under the sponsorship of the International Headquarters in order to establish a propagation foundation in Hong Kong. At this Workshop, Rev. Mamoru Amachi (Asia, Europe and Oceania Section, International Department), who is originally from the People’s Republic of China and became an Assistant Minister in November of last year was dispatched from the International Headquarters. He guided in the Chinese language for the first time.

Rev. Amachi gave four lectures: “On Seicho-No-Ie’s Teaching About Infinite Wealth,” “Significance of Holy Mission Fellowship and Importance of its Expansion,” “Islam and Seicho-No-Ie,” and “Let’s Hold Joyous Readers’ Meetings.” Since there are many workers from Muslim regions in Hong Kong, Islam was a topic of the study for the first time. Similarities between Seicho-No-Ie and Islam, the problem of fundamentalism, Islam’s diversity and tolerance were explained from the point of view of the truth that all religions emanate from one universal God.

In light of the global economic recession, Rev. Amachi explained Seicho-No-Ie’s fundamental teaching on infinite wealth: matter is nonexistent and the phenomenal world is a reflection of the mind. He included his own experiences in his talk. The Holy Mission Fellowship Gratitude Ceremony was held for the first time in about 10 years.

Rev. Amachi also stressed the importance of holding Readers’ Meetings while practicing the three important religious practices, as well as of expanding the Holy Mission Fellowship membership and development of leaders. The attendees commented after the Workshop: “I would like to start a Readers’ Meeting at my home”; “My prejudice against Islam disappeared and I felt confident about the wonderfulness of the teaching that all religions emanate from one universal God”; and “I gained a deeper understanding of the significance of the Holy Mission Fellowship.”

Rev. Amachi remarked, “I visited Hong Kong last year as an interpreter. My guidance was based on that experience. A leader commented that now is the best time to propagate the teaching, since the economic situation is so difficult. It was decided after the Workshop to hold the Holy Mission Fellowship Gratitude Ceremony every month. In June a Readers’ Meeting will start at a new member’s home. I sense a great potential for the growth of the Movement in Hong Kong.”
