World's Eco Life

Recycling Activity

From The Republic of Korea

At the Kwang Myung Hoy, garbage is separated into five kinds, beginning with plastic bottles. From the end of 1980s the Republic of Korea began to face serious shortage of waste disposal facilities and started to encourage separation of garbage as much as possible for recycling purposes.

Plastic bottles are re-made into plastic goods. Used clothes are collected by recycling companies and given to Southeast Asia as gifts. The demand for used paper is high because the country does not have much forestry resources to make paper, so that plenty of paper is recycled.

Nonetheless, the most effective recycling is to reduce the amount of garbage itself. Together with the members, we are working very hard to use both sides of paper in printing, reduce the use of disposable goods, carry around Eco Bags and reduce garbage from cooking.

Eco-Life in the Republic of Korea has been introduced in six installments. How does it compare with Japan’s Eco-Life activity?
