Rev. Seicho Taniguchi's Memorial Service Transmitted Live to 69 Sites


More than 10,000 People Participate in the Service

The Memorial Service For the Late Rev. Seicho Taniguchi, President of Seicho-No-Ie, which was held on December 17, 2008 at the Tobitakyu Spiritual Training Center, was transmitted live via Internet to 69 sites, including 59 Missionary Areas in Japan, six Regional Spiritual Training Centers, Main Temple, Uji Temple, Kawaguchiko Spiritual Training Center, and the Republic of China Missionary Headquarters. The transmission included sound and images.

According to the Publishing and Public Affairs Department, the number of people who participated in the Memorial Service via Internet transmission totaled 9,087. The number of attendees at the Tobitakyu Spiritual Training Center Memorial Service site was 1,134, making the total number of participants 10,221. Comments from the participants who watched the transmitted Service included: “I got a sense of oneness from simultaneously reading the Holy Sutra with those attending the Service at the Tobitakyu Spiritual Training Center” (a woman from Nara Missionary Area); “The clear pictures made me feel that I was right there at the Memorial Service being held at the Tobitakyu Spiritual Training Center” (a woman from Okinawa Missionary Area).

This was the first attempt at nation-wide live transmission. This may lead to online transmission of other events in the future.
