READERS’ MEETING AND PARENTS’ STUDY CLASS HELD IN HONG KONG

Study of Actual Ways to Practice Sundial Way of Life

In Hong Kong, four events were held in Japanese and Chinese from June 13 to 15 at the meeting place of Seicho-No-Ie Hong Kong Readers’ Meeting, Inc. (Representative: Mrs. Machiko Kwok) in Kowloon. The events included a Readers’ Meeting, a Parents’ Study Class and a Readers’ Meeting for Leaders. The themes of the events were the “Sundial Way of Life” and “The Teaching that All Religions Emanate from One Universal God.” The total number of participants was 41.

Rev. Teruo Nishitani (Assistant Minister, Chief of Asia, Europe and Oceania Section, International Department) was dispatched from the International Headquarters as a lecturer.

A Chinese-language Readers’ Meeting was held on June 13 and on June 14 a Japanese-language Readers’ Meeting was held. Using Hidokeishuji towa Nani ka? (What Is the Sundial Way of Life?) by Rev. Masanobu Taniguchi as his text, Rev. Nishitani explained the sundial way of life and played a “praise game,” where the attendees wrote down on paper good points of people around them and read it in front of everyone. He said that there are many “true appearances” around us, which are reflections of the God-created world. He stressed that to see and be grateful for them is the key to materializing a happy life.

On June 15, a Parents’ Study Class was held. There was a presentation of actual cases of the Seicho-No-Ie Method of Education. Also, sections from Seicho-No-Ie books which deal with parenting were translated into Chinese and handed out. Rev. Nishitani talked about specific points to help children grow at home.

The last event was a Readers’ Meeting for Leaders, which was held under the theme, “All Religions Emanate from One Universal God.” Rev. Nishitani explained that behind all religions in the world is the principle of salvation that is common to all humanity. He then showed pictures of Readers’ Meetings held around the world and called upon the attendees to hold attractive Readers’ Meetings in Hong Kong.

Enthusiastic Comments were received from the leaders who attended the events, including: “I would like to practice the sundial way of life at home and at my workplace and spread it to people around me.”

Rev. Nishitani remarked:

“It has been one year since my last visit. I was impressed to see first-hand the attitude of people in Hong Kong who wish to actively propagate. In order to improve the foundation of the organization in Hong Kong, I would like to develop leaders and also make preparations for the Regional Lecturer Examination.”
