ECO LIFE

VEGAN PARTY HELD IN CALIFORNIA

Rev. Mario Kawakami,

Chief of Northern California Missionary Area

The word, “Vegan,” is used to mean a person who not only does not eat meat but also fish, milk-based products and eggs. From two years ago we have given a Vegan party at our house. The reason I started this was that as I learned that vegetarian and Vegan were popular in the U.S.A. and Seicho-No-Ie also recommends no-meat diet, my wife and I decided to eat and enjoy vegetarian food more often. The guests we invite include mothers whom we came to know at Mothers’ Study Classes or through the Truth of Life Magazines. Normally four to nine families gather, including my family. When the turnout is large, nearly 30 people come. Not only Japanese but people with other cultural background come—English speaking people account for one third. They bring Japanese, western, Chinese and other home-made Vegan dishes. It creates no work for us and we enjoy the food. What pleases me most is that the children enjoy vegetarian food. I myself feel better physically after I changed to Vegan diet.
