From November 10 to 13, 2007, a Joint Readers’ Meeting was held in Indonesia and Thailand. The number of attendees totaled 37.

Rev. Natsuki Yamamoto (Assistant Minister, Assistant Chief of the Asia, Europe and Oceania Section, International Department) was dispatched from the International Headquarters as a lecturer.

In Indonesia, a Readers’ Meeting was held on November 10 and 11 at the Hotel Atlet Century Park in Jakarta. The number of attendees totaled 31, including 12 first-timers. This was an increase of 6 people (24%) over the previous year. Six were Japanese and twenty-five were Indonesian.

To promote attendance, the leaders prepared promotional flyers in Indonesian for the first time. It produced good results.

In Thailand, a Readers’ Meeting took place on November 13 at the house of Mr. Hirotaka Miyamura (Representative of the Joint Readers’ Meeting). It was attended by 6 people, including 2 newcomers.

In both countries, the content of the Meeting was the same. Rev. Yamamoto used as his texts Seimei no Jisso (Truth of Life), Volumes 1 and 7, Ashimoto kara Heiwa o (From Here to World Peace) and Shinko ni yoru Heiwa no Michi (Realizing Peace by Faith) by Rev. Masanobu Taniguchi, and Hidokei Nikki–2008 Version (Sundial Diary—2008 Version) by Mrs. Junko Taniguchi. Rev. Yamamoto stressed that the sundial way of life, i.e., one that records only good and bright things, is the Seicho-No-Ie way of life and stressed the importance of applying it in one’s daily life.

The program also included a Q&A session, Shinsokan for Mutual Prayer, and laughing practice, and also attendees’ testimonies.

Comments received from the attendees included: “I would like to become a member and study the teachings more deeply”; and “I learned how I can have a positive attitude in life.” A Muslim Indonesian commented, “The teaching that all religions emanate from one universal God is wonderful. Seicho-No-Ie is similar to Islam in that it also teaches that ‘everything is a manifestation of God.’ I believe that the Movement will expand if we propagate systematically.”

Rev. Yamamoto remarked,

“The Readers’ Meeting turned out to be a meaningful event. I realized that in Indonesia Muslims take interest in the Seicho-No-Ie teaching. I would like to provide support so that the Readers’ Meeting in these countries will be energized.”
