THE SECOND REPUBLIC OF CHINA NATIONAL LEADERS’ WORKSHOP ATTENDED BY 111 PEOPLE

Workshop made the attendees deepen their
understanding of environmental protection activities

To Realize "A Movement that Grows with Nature”

The Second Republic of China National Leaders’ Workshop was held from November 10 to 11, 2007 at the Banchao Branch of Communications Training Center Banchao, Taipei. The number of attendees was 111, up by 12 people over the previous time.

The Workshop has been held by the Seicho-No-Ie Republic of China Missionary Center since 2006 in order that Regional Lecturers and Propagators gain correct awareness and understanding about the Movement and promote systematic activities. This was the second Workshop.

Since Seicho-No-Ie Republic of China Missionary Center aims to acquire ISO14001 certification in five years, the objective of this Workshop was to help the leaders deepen their understanding of the environmental protection issue. Rev. Kazutomi Otsuka (Ordained Minister, Missionary Councilor, Chief of Finance Department) was dispatched from the International Headquarters and provided guidance with Rev. Masanori Morita (Ordained Minister, Bishop of Seicho-No-Ie Republic of China). They spoke with Chinese interpretation.

Rev. Otsuka prepared the material for his lectures based on Seicho-No-Ie publications as well as books by Rev. Masanobu Taniguchi, vice president of Seicho-No-Ie. Through Chinese interpretation, he gave four lectures, including “On the World View that Everything Is One,” “To Realize ‘a Movement that Grows with Nature,’” and “Let’s Do Good Deeds to Protect the Beautiful Earth.” He stressed the need to promote the Movement with giving of the truth and material things in a balanced manner. By showing images on a projector, he tried to help deepen the attendees’ understanding about the Movement that grows with nature.

Rev. Morita gave two lectures entitled “The Environmental Issue from a Religious Point of View” and “The Republic of China Center’s Environmental Activities.” In addition, he guided the Q&A session together with Rev. Otsuka.

Comments from the attendees included: “I understood that it was important to deal with reduction of CO2 emission and save energy with gratitude for nature’s blessings”; and “Through the three important religious practices I would like to actually live each day with the awareness that all life is one.”

Rev. Otsuka remarked, “I sensed the attendees’ enthusiasm from several questions which the attendees asked. I expect that they will join forces toward the objective of acquiring ISO certification and engage in environmental protection activities based on the teaching.”

Remarks by Rev. Masanori Morita, Bishop of Seicho-No-Ie Republic of China

“It was quite significant that the attendees deepened their understanding about faith-based environmental protection, since even among the leaders their understanding was insufficient. We would like to continue with our study.”
