Seicho-No-Ie Environment
Approach until fiscal year 2006
Seicho-No-Ie has started a full-scale of environmental conservation activities and has implemented the following measures.
Acquisition of ISO14001 certification
The 66 offices had achieved ISO14001 certification over the period from July 2001 to July 2007
Activities toward reduction of CO2 emissions
Seicho-No-Ie has started the activity to decrease CO2 emissions since fiscal 2004. The 61 missionary centers (excluding three facilities under construction) in Japan achieved to reduce 270,727 Kg CO2, 266.7% achievement for self goal of 101,514 Kg. Since the Kyoto Protocol was entered into force in February 2005, Seicho-No-Ie has achieved to reduce CO2 emissions by 13.6% (994,483 kg) by 2008 compared to fiscal 2002. As a result of active participation by all Seicho-No-Ie offices in Japan, by the end of fiscal year of 2006, we have reached an achievement of 16.74% ((1,106,252kg) at the end of fiscal 2006, which is 2 years faster than our original plan.
Fundraising activity for reforestation
As a promotion of environmental conservation activities were stated in the Seicho-No-Ie movement policy for 2002, each missionary centers and spiritual training centers set a donation box to enlighten the promotion of environmental conservation activities for reforestation of the world to prevent global warming and help keeping biological diversity. The collected donation was set aside for the environmental conservation work of WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) Japan.
Fundraising activity to adopt green electricity
Donating to wind power generation industry supports the industry and contributes for reduction of CO2, Seicho-No-Ie has started a fundraising activity from May 2003.
Installation of Photovoltaic Power Generating System
In fiscal 2002, Seicho-No-Ie installed Photovoltaic Power Generating System at Seicho-No-Ie Main Temple for the first time. Since then, we have promoted installation the system to each office. Total quantity of generated electricity from PV system until 2006 was 1,227.8kW. Connected with introduction the PV system to each office, Seicho-No-Ie does it after research cooperated with NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization) and subsidize its expense for the offices.
